When Elephants Fight, It Is The Grass The Suffers

This ancient proverb of the Kikuyu people, a tribal group in Kenya, Africa, is as true today especially for the GOP as when the words were first spoken, perhaps thousands of years ago. The Republican party is almost obliterating itself with the foolishness we see today.

I am not a fan of politics. It is a part of our lives whether you like it or not. I even ran for public office in 2014 when I was unemployed. I figured it was a good time to try. I ran as a Republican in a historically Democratic demographic of affluent African Americans. Everything I did was intentional. I did not spend any money. I did not waste my time lying to people. I did not promise anything except honesty and transparency. I would not seek endorsements of anyone or any group that I didn’t know of before I started the process. I ended up being endorsed by two groups, neither of which donated any money. I didn’t get any help from my church. I won the nomination because I was unopposed and lost the election by 92.25%.

What I see today with the Republican party reminds me of that Kenyan quote. America has been damaged by this cycle of our political process. It is not cute, entertaining or necessary.

Making America Hate Again,

which is a play on the slogan of Donald Trump. This is sad. I still think Mr. Trump is now caught between a rock and a hard place. I bet that he really doesn’t want to be the President of the United States past the status and ego gratification. I think that he is stuck now because he has not only shown how fragmented, hurt and ignorant some people are, he is their leader, or the reason they decided to become engaged in the argument. I think he wanted to be a catalyst and show how broke the system was but now is leading it and can’t get out of it. No matter how raunchy and raw he gets it works. It is like trying to show how dirty a house is and end up owning the home.

He is getting press he could never pay for for free. He is on a non-stop Celebrity Apprentice-like reality show on steroids and we are the Biggest Losers.

With the way the world of politics is today it is the grassroots that are suffering today. Every conversation I have with friends talks about their disappointment, shock, and embarrassment regarding the elections. What do you think about what’s going on?
